The Office of Pretrial Services is recruiting for a Law Enforcement Records Technician-Unclassified position.
Unclassified positions are temporary, with benefits, and due to end on June 30, 2024.

COVID-19 Risk Tier - Higher risk Typical Tasks Explains court and jail procedures to defendants and the public; Performs booking, release, warrant, subpoena, restraining order, criminal and traffic citation, felony and misdemeanor warrant, CLETS, SLETS, NCIC, and other criminal records processes; Reviews warrants and other court and legal documents to verify that booking information is in accordance with applicable regulations, laws, and procedures; Books, processes, and releases inmates or defendants on their own recognizance, collects and processes bail or fines, and balances daily funds received; Sets court dates, identifies conflicts in scheduled court appearances, and determines which appearance takes precedence; Maintains confidential criminal records related to law enforcement activity; Operates and accesses multiple automated criminal justice telecommunication information systems and subsystems; Enters, modifies, and retrieves data into local, state, and national computers, and builds a data base which establishes a criminal record; Assists in training as needed, gives direction and guidance on specific assignments, and reviews and corrects errors of others; Reads and processes various legal documents such as court orders, booking documents, arrest records, incident records, files, and cases to identify inaccurate and inconsistent and unclear codes, data and other information; May supervise inmates assigned to assist in routine tasks.
When assigned to Booking:
Books and processes prisoners; Schedules court appearances and inmate transportation, monitors for arraignment or release, notifies other agencies of detainers or holds, and computes release dates; Determines the legal basis for booking, detention, movement, or release of inmates at various points in the arresting, court, or detention process in accordance with legal mandates and statutory law; Reviews criminal history to determine whether time has been served on all matters (such as when there are multiple matters with different dispositions) to ensure proper release date; When assigned to Records:
Relays information on individuals and vehicles to officers in the field; Updates information on the status of warrants, seals and purges records in compliance with court orders and state statutes, codes citations, accident, and other reports according to Uniform Crime Reporting standards; Researches and compiles data for subpoena compliance, provides information to other law enforcement agencies, courts, and attorneys, and the public in accordance with legal requirements governing the release of criminal record information and incident and accident reports; Fingerprints individuals for employment, state licenses, and permits, and fingerprints, photographs, and establishes files for persons required to register for sex, arson, and narcotics offenses; Determines when to release vehicles or other property; Distributes warrants to field officers for service; Performs other related duties.
Employment Standards Training and experience equivalent to completion of high school and sufficient education, training, or experience, which would demonstrate the knowledge and abilities.
Knowledge of:
Arrest, bail, and booking processes, court and detention procedures, legal documents, law enforcement codes and terminology; Legal mandates on arraignment procedures/time frames, and sentencing and release calculations; Manual and automated State, Federal, and local records systems; A variety of code languages used in automated law enforcement data systems; Penal, Vehicle, Civil, Health and Safety, Welfare and Institution, Municipal, and other statutory codes and authorities; Codes, ordinances, and legal procedures for coding, processing, and disseminating criminal history and incident information; Criminal justice procedures, functions and relationships of the criminal justice system, courts, and law enforcement agencies; Standards and legal requirements on confidentiality and privacy.
Ability to:
Understand, interpret, and apply departmental policies, rules, laws, regulations, and ordinances pertaining to correctional facilities or law enforcement agencies; Use discretion and mature judgement in the handling of sensitive and confidential information; Perform tasks related to the department or unit's regulations, rules, policies, functions, procedures or processes and assume responsibility for a major clerical function including the resolution of problems; Retrieve, store, and purge information in a wide variety of manual and automated filing systems, and maintain security and confidentiality of restricted information; Input, update, retrieve, and release data, identify vital information quickly and accurately, utilizing multiple automated and manual law enforcement data systems; Determine the legal basis for booking, detention, movement, or release of inmates or defendants through interpretation of court documents, statutory codes and authorities; Exercise a mature attitude and calm demeanor; Work in a locked detention facility or other law enforcement environment; Handle stressful situations with the public and cope with a variety of individuals who may be hostile, aggressive, irate, inebriated, uncooperative, and/or emotionally disturbed; Make decisions in procedural matters without immediate supervision.
Special Requirements Ability to pass a background check and be bondable.
Willingness to work other than a normal Monday through Friday day shift.
Desirable Qualifications Completion of Peace Officer Standards & Training (POST) Records Class Possession of Department of Justice Telecommunications Certification.

Estimated Salary: $20 to $28 per hour based on qualifications.

The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
